Promote Safe Sleep

You and your caregivers can help prevent suffocation and accidents during sleep by providing a safe sleep environment for your baby.

Babies should always be placed on their backs to sleep in a safety-approved crib or basinet with a firm mattress and a tight-fitted sheet. No additional items such as bedding, bumpers, or toys should be in the crib. Adults should not sleep or bed share with babies because of the increased risk of accidental suffocation. Furniture and adult beds are not built with the baby in mind and therefore can be dangerous for a sleeping baby.

While Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) are not always preventable, these safe sleeping tips can help decrease the risk to your baby.
